Design Strategy for Integrated Personal Health Records: Improving the User Experience of Digital Healthcare and Wellbeing

This dissertation addresses the timely problem of designing Integrated Personal Health Records (PHR). The goal is to provide citizens with digital user experiences, sustainable and flexible enough, for gaining control over their personal health information in a seamless way. Most importantly, so that people are able to reflect and act upon their selfknowledge, towards the accomplishment of their good health and wellbeing. Towards this end, the Integrated PHR as an emerging model in the field of Health IT, was the framework that set this research forward on exploring how communication and collaboration between patients and providers can be improved, which naturally impacts the field of HCI. Acknowledging that today patients are the ones who own all that is recorded about their health data, this new model was object of a design strategy that shaped the results presented in this dissertation. These have showed how patients can have more control of their health over time, through a patient-centered, organic system, which has the ability of combining multiple sources of data both from patient and provider side. As this new type of PHR fosters the creation of integrated networks, this milestone was achieved in this research by interacting with cross-channel user experiences that took part of nationwide healthcare ecosystems. The work presented herein, has demonstrated through the analysis and development of two use cases in cooperation with organizations connected to the Portuguese Ministry of Health, how an Integrated PHR can be a powerful personal tool, to be used by the citizen with undeniable value to the demands of an aging society. The use cases structured the thesis into two parts. The first part in collaboration with the Portuguese National Patient Portal, combines an Integrated PHR and incorporates the Portuguese Data Sharing Platform (PDS), which can be used by any Portuguese citizen. This use case study led to a proposal of the portal by also creating a foundational model for designing Integrated PHRs. The second part in collaboration with the Portuguese National Senior Telehealth Program (Saúde 24 Sénior), led to another proposal for an Integrated PHR, applying the outcomes from Part 1 and the requirements that derived from the findings explored in this second use case study. The proposed solution, has the potential to be used by the Portuguese senior community in the scope of home assistive care. Both proposals applied a user experience design methodology and included the development of two prototypes. The engagement of the stakeholders during the two case studies was accomplished with participatory design methods and followed a multidisciplinary approach to create solutions that would meet the human, politics and behavior interdependencies that were inherent to the process of working with large healthcare organizations. The provided contributions from this thesis intent to be part of a transition process that is changing the behavior of the healthcare sector, which is increasingly moving towards the improvement of the patient-provider relationship, patient engagement, collaborative care and positive computing, where digital technologies play a key role

Algorithms for information extraction and signal annotation on long-term biosignals using clustering techniques

Dissertação para obtenção do Grau de Mestre em Engenharia BiomédicaOne of the biggest challenges when analysing data is to extract information from it, especially if we dealing with very large sized data, which brings a new set of barriers to be overcome. The extracted information can be used to aid physicians in their diagnosis since biosignals often carry vital information on the subjects. In this research work, we present a signal-independent algorithm with two main goals: perform events detection in biosignals and, with those events, extract information using a set of distance measures which will be used as input to a parallel version of the k-means clustering algorithm. The first goal is achieved by using two different approaches. Events can be found based on peaks detection through an adaptive threshold defined as the signal’s root mean square (RMS) or by morphological analysis through the computation of the signal’s meanwave. The final goal is achieved by dividing the distance measures into n parts and by performing k-means individually. In order to improve speed performance, parallel computing techniques were applied. For this study, a set of different types of signals was acquired and annotated by our algorithm. By visual inspection, the L1 and L2 Minkowski distances returned an output that allowed clustering signals’ cycles with an efficiency of 97:5% and 97:3%, respectively. Using the meanwave distance, our algorithm achieved an accuracy of 97:4%. For the downloaded ECGs from the Physionet databases, the developed algorithm detected 638 out of 644 manually annotated events provided by physicians. The fact that this algorithm can be applied to long-term raw biosignals and without requiring any prior information about them makes it an important contribution in biosignals’ information extraction and annotation

Nos últimos anos, a indústria do agenciamento de música em Portugal, alavancada pelo crescimento e aumento da notoriedade da música portuguesa tanto a nível nacional como internacional, tem vindo a crescer significativamente e a afirmar-se como uma atividade preponderante para o sucesso artístico, no que diz respeito ao panorama atual da indústria musical no nosso país. As agências, responsáveis pelo booking e gestão de carreira dos seus artistas, funcionam como um elo de ligação entre os seus agenciados e as grandes editoras e trabalham no sentido de promover o talento musical diretamente às grandes massas. O território nacional está coberto por uma variedade de géneros e estilos musicais, seja ao nível da oferta ou da procura. Do rock ao pop, do fado à música tradicional, existe uma quantidade enorme de músicos e talentos emergentes por descobrir. Portanto, compete às agências explorar as ferramentas ao seu alcance para que consigam, desta forma, apoiar os seus artistas enquanto os encaminham até ao sucesso, naquele que é um mercado altamente competitivo e volátil. Ferramentas estas que, atualmente, se identificam incontornavelmente como digitais, numa era onde as redes sociais e as plataformas de streaming representam toda uma nova forma de abordar o mercado. Este relatório de estágio resulta de um trabalho realizado ao longo de seis meses com a equipa da “Primeira Linha Music Booking Agency” (que atualmente representa um dos maiores players da indústria) e explora a história e o estado atual das agências de música em Portugal, o impacto da sua influência no crescimento e sucesso dos artistas e a forma como as ferramentas de marketing digital potenciam a promoção e divulgação do trabalho artístico para uma audiência que não só é nacional, como global

Proposta de programação de edificação residencial de múltiplos pavimentos utilizando técnica de linha de balanço (LDB)

Engenharia Civil.O presente trabalho de conclusão de curso tem como objetivo fundamental realizar a programação de uma obra de múltiplos pavimentos tipo utilizando ritmos constantes de produção das equipes. A metodologia de trabalho foi o estudo de caso, no qual se procurou aplicar os conceitos da técnica de linha de balanço na programação de um empreendimento a ser construído na cidade de Florianópolis/SC. Como resultado, foram definidos os ritmos necessários a serem impostos na execução das atividades de modo a respeitar o prazo de entrega da obra e evitar descontinuidade dos serviços causada pelo desbalanceamento das operações

Percepção de riscos na estrada: uma perspectiva antropológica sobre o Algarve

O estudo da realidade rodoviária portuguesa tem entregue, quase exclusivamente às ciências ditas exactas, sendo o enfoque colocado nos aspectos não-humanas da estrada. Assim, as investigações em torno do risco rodoviário acabam por, invariavelmente, ir parar ao estudo da concepção e construção das infra-estruturas, nos dispositivos de segurança incorporados nos veículos, ou em tipologias de condutores e comportamentos, negligenciando os muitos aspectos do comportamento social humano num ambiente de clausura, o automóvel. Através de uma perspectiva antropológica, assente na recolha de dados etnológica, este trabalho pretende oferecer uma nova visão sobre esta realidade.The task of studying the Portuguese roads has been handed over, almost exclusively, to the so-called exact sciences, putting the focus on the non-human aspects of the road. This way, the researches made on road risk factors end up, inevitably, by studying the design and construction of the infrastructures, or studying the safety devices incorporated in the automobile, neglecting the various aspects of social human behaviour, in an environment of closure, the car. Through an anthropological perspective, rooted in an ethnographic research, this work pretends to give a different approach to this reality

Gestão do risco no setor do tratamento e transporte de valores

Mestrado em Gestão e Estratégia IndustrialA gestão do risco surge cada vez mais como uma função de gestão essencial para o desenvolvimento contínuo e sustentável das empresas, vindo a ser constituída como ferramenta fundamental no processo de tomada de decisão das organizações. Tendo como objetivo primeiro garantir a continuidade do negócio e a prossecução de bons resultados financeiros, as empresas têm de se focar em ser eficientes, eliminando, dentro do possível, as probabilidades dos riscos a que estão sujeitas, no normal decorrer da sua atividade, de se materializarem, ou mitigando o seu efeito, quando ocorrem. De acordo com a literatura existente há ainda um caminho muito longo a percorrer por parte das organizações, que desde logo deve começar pela difusão de informação sobre esta temática, convidando todos os colaboradores, e não apenas os gestores de topo, a participar, consciencializando-os para os riscos a que a organização está exposta e para aquilo que pode/deve ser feito para os ultrapassar. Com o objetivo de avaliar a integração do conceito de risco na cultura organizacional das Empresas de Transporte de Valores, perceber de que forma lidam diariamente com esta temática no desenvolvimento das suas atividades operacionais e quais as técnicas e ferramentas que mais utilizam, foi escolhido, para a presente investigação, o método de entrevistas semiestruturadas direcionadas ao universo de empresas que realizam esta atividade em Portugal, composto por apenas 4 organizações. A investigação levada a cabo junto destas empresas permitiu encontrar pontos comuns, ou seja, que corroboram a teoria existente, mas também outras situações que a contrariam.Risk management is increasingly seen as an essential management function for the continuous and sustainable development of enterprises, hence becoming a fundamental tool in the organizations' decision process. To accomplish their first goal, which is to continue business and obtain good financial results, companies must focus on being efficient, eliminating, as far as possible, the risk probabilities their activity is subjected to or minimizing their effect when they occur. According to the available literature, organizations still have a long way ahead which should start by diffusing information on the topic and inviting all collaborators, and not just senior managers, to participate making them aware of the risks the organization is exposed to and of what should be done to overcome them. The method of semi structured interviews, chosen for this study, was applied to the universe of the four Cash and Valuables Transportation Companies operating in Portugal in order to evaluate the integration of the concept of risk in their organizational culture and understand the way they daily deal with this issue in the development of their operational activities and what the most used techniques and tools are. The investigation undertaken in these companies revealed common points, which corroborate the existing theories, but also other situations that contradict them

Análise de desempenho de sistemas óticos de comunicação subaquática

Monografia (graduação)—Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade UnB Gama, Curso de Engenharia Eletrônica, 2015.A crescente necessidade de comunicação subaquática, seja para a comunicação entre pessoas, para operação de veículos não tripulados ou para análise de sistemas de monitoramento em tempo real, tem estimulado o interesse em pesquisas para desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias que possam aprimorar os sistemas de comunicação subaquáticos hoje existentes. Neste trabalho será analisado o sistema de comunicação ótica sem fio no meio aquático, uma vez que, verifica-se que o sistema mais utilizado atualmente neste ambiente é o sistema de comunicação sem fio por meio da acústica, o qual não proporciona altas taxas de transmissão, as quais são necessárias para realizar o monitoramento por meio de vídeo ou para transmissão de uma grande quantidade de dados coletados por sensores em tempo real. Para realizar a análise foi desenvolvido um protótipo do sistema de comunicação. Para isso, serão selecionados dispositivos de transmissão e recepção do sinal, dispositivo necessário para tratamento dos dados enviados e recebidos e por fim apresentada a metodologia de trabalho para realização dos testes e os resultados obtidos. _____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe growing need for underwater communication, it is for communication between people, to operate drones or real-time analysis of systems has stimulated interest in research to develop new technologies that can improve the currently existing underwater communication systems. This paper will analyze the system of optical wireless communication in the aquatic environment, because the most frequently used system today is the acoustic communication system, which not provide high transmission rates, which are necessary to perform video in real-time or transmission of a large amount of data collected by sensors. To perform the analysis, a prototype of the communication system will be developed, to do this is necessary select the transmission and reception of the signal, the device required for processing the data sent and received, and finally will be presented the work methodology
